ROADBURNT

A culinary guide to the Netherlands by the Mighty Thunder Rider

roadburnt

The Roadburn festival in 2005 was a real experience for Nik.

He had toured around Holland in 1967, as a roustabout with the rock'n'roll psychedelic psircus 'Tent 67', sometimes run by Willem De Ridder, and Radio Veronica (where Hawkwind was concieved). Played Tilburg, went to the love-in in the Rai in A'dam, roadied for bands 'Het', and 'Davey Jones Pocomania', touring round Holland, so it was great to come back.

Playing the festival was fantastic. Everyone got treated really well. Nik met up with a few old pals, guys from Sleep, that he did a tour with in the US as Nik Turner's Space Ritual (before the current version). Fred Platje, the photographer, his beautiful daughter Steffani, and a lot of freinds and fans he'd met before. Playing was great also. The band really rocked, with Ed Mundell from Monster Magnet playing guitar on Nik's 'Brainstorm', which Ed recorded with Monster Magnet, and Master of the Universe.

There were a lot of cool bands on the bill, including Litmus and some others.

Nik can't remember it all too well.

He remembers eating a biscuit someone gave him, and then everything went wierd.

WOW!!

POW!!

It's wierd maan, strange colours, strange noises, moving dissolving, close your eyes when you first enter, pretty ladies everywhere, silver screens with pretty ladies, heedless of the glnding blare, see the band with twisted faces, bending endless notes in time, pushing buttons, shaking their hair, shoulder-length approaching mine, it's called the lightshow, when it comes on heavy, and, ooh, chatting to the fans, tuning in, then it went even wierder. "Where am I?" he thought. Even stranger noises. The earth was shifting sideways and he seemed to be the only one to notice it. He dissolved into the stairs, fortunately no-one walked on him, he came back to the light sometime later, most impressed with the fabfest.

Wants to play there again, says thanx to all the guys and gals organising it, and hopes to see you all again soon.
